The Bend Chamber has been here for the business community since 1926. Representing over 1,600 businesses with more than 25,000 employees, the Bend Chamber’s mission is to create an environment where businesses, their employees and our community excel together through collaboration, advocacy, resources and leadership. The Leadership Programs Manager works primarily within the 501c3 arm of the Chamber, BendNEXT, which houses workforce and leadership development programs, as well as a variety of other initiatives.

BendNEXT Programs –
Emerging Talent/Leaders – Workforce Development
A program for those in entry-to-midpoint careers. The program offers both an opportunity to connect with other professionals in varying settings, and to grow personally, professionally and have impact in the community through regular social and educational events. The Emerging Talent group also has access to peer mentorship circles facilitated by Leadership Bend graduates.
Leadership Bend (LB)
This 9-month intensive program includes monthly day-long classes that include learning about Central Oregon’s non-profit network, water and natural resource management, meetings with elected officials, the inner workings of Central Oregon media, and much more. At the end of the course, each participant will know more about our community, how it works, and how to identify their place as a collaborative and inclusive leader.
Each year, the cohort also scopes out and executes one or more “Impact Projects” for local non-profits or municipalities during their tenure, supervised by the program leader.
Leadership Bend Alumni Association (LBAA)
The LBAA exists to help LB program graduates continue the connection and learning throughout their careers (and beyond) by hosting social, educational and community volunteer events each year, fostering greater communication and deeper relationships.
Bend 101
A program designed to help new residents orient and engage in their new community. Includes historical context, a look at our region’s economic indicators and diversity, an overview of how our city is run, highlights on particular areas of opportunity and challenges, and an invitation to become engaged citizens.
Initiative and Community-Based Work
The Chamber team is regularly at the table for discussions on how to support our community and our partners through problem-solving and collaboration. Examples of this include our work to break down barriers and craft solutions to developing more middle-income housing, collaboration to increase the availability and affordability of local childcare and bringing relevant and impactful workplace belonging training to HR professionals and business leaders.
Position Summary:
The Leadership Programs Manager works alongside the VP of Leadership Development to strategize, design, improve and implement a variety of workforce, community and leadership development programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a range of programs dedicated to workforce education, leadership development and other community impacting efforts. This includes ideation and vetting of programs, to strategic development and execution.
- Work to identify opportunities and risks for existing and potential programs.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop the viability, scope, deliverables, resources, work plan, budget, and timing for any new initiatives.
- Develop, maintain and learn from strong program assessment metrics against KPIs for program evaluation, success and improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and manage program budgets; work with Sponsor Relations Lead and other teammates to identify program funders and steward contributor relations.
- Lead and inspire groups of volunteers who inform, support and serve as ambassadors for our programs
- Partner with colleagues for support on the logistics and execution of a wide variety of events, socials and programs.
- Provide excellent, responsive communication and service to program participants, stakeholders and supporters
- Manage contracts, outcomes and relationships with vendors and independent contractors
- Work with the Marketing Lead and administrative support to develop and execute PR and event attendance campaigns. Includes social media, digital and traditional content development, email campaigns, website updates and general advertising.
- Research and implement new and effective channels to reach target audiences.
- Be aware of the external programs occurring throughout Central Oregon and coordinate with other organizations to complement each other’s efforts and avoid duplication.
- Be an outstanding and visible representative of the Chamber/BendNEXT and their mission/vision/values.
- Provide excellent customer service, internally and externally.
- Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.

- Understand the value of developing leaders who want to perpetuate Bend’s collaborative business culture by ensuring we pass on the “secret sauce of success” to the next generation of leaders.

- An adept networker through all mediums – from social media to more traditional methods. You look for connections to people you know, and opportunities and ideas that are in your widening circle.
- Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities and timelines.
- A finisher who has the unique ability to generate innovative ideas, filter to find the gems and follow through on the implementation and execution of those ideas from conception to completion.
- Someone who can collaborate and communicate effectively with a team and other partners, taking the initiative to know “who has the ball” – when to own, and when to delegate.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
- Leadership and employee/talent development experience a plus
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in program management, ideally across multiple programs.
- Exceptional skills in leadership, decision-making, time management, facilitation, and organization
- Outstanding communication skills – written and verbal
- Knowledge of continuous improvement practices and program evaluation processes
- Experience developing and managing program budgets
- Experience with marketing and public relations helpful
- An understanding of the dynamics of working for or with a nonprofit; grant writing experience a plus
- Experience in managing/collaborating with/supporting volunteer groups, external stakeholders and community partners
- Project management and/or event management experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Drive platform and social media management tools like Hootsuite. Experience with Canva is also helpful.

Working Conditions:
- This is primarily an office/indoor position, however, frequent support for staffing Chamber events will include travel to offsite locations, both indoor and outdoor. This necessitates access to a working vehicle carrying the proper insurance.
- Events will often require working evenings with occasional to frequent longer workdays.
- Moderate physical effort, including lifting, carrying, writing, squatting, driving, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, walking, seeing.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
