Position Overview
Wellbright is seeking a learning coach for students age 7-15. This is not a traditional classroom teacher role.
The Learning Coach role is a blend of tutor, classroom aide, and student mentor. About half of the work involves helping students with academic subjects such as math, reading, writing, science, and project-based assignments. The other half involves supporting students’ behavior, motivation, confidence, and emotional regulation throughout the day.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide academic support to students individually or in small groups
- Help students understand assignments in Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and other subjects
- Encourage students to stay focused, organized, and engaged
- Support students when they are frustrated, discouraged, distracted, or acting out
- Model calm communication, patience, respect, and positive problem-solving
- Assist teachers and school leadership with daily classroom routines and student support
- Help create a warm, structured, and encouraging learning environment
Ideal candidate:
- Enjoys working with children ages 6–15
- Is patient, calm, dependable, and emotionally mature
- Can support students academically, especially in basic math, reading, writing, and science
- Understands that some children need extra help with behavior, focus, and self-control
- Can be firm when needed while remaining kind and respectful
- Is comfortable being a positive role model and mentor
- Has tutoring, childcare, teaching, coaching, or youth leadership experience
Requirements
- High school diploma- Bachelor’s degree is preferred
- Proficiency in core academic subjects, especially math, reading, and writing
- Ability to explain academic concepts clearly and patiently to students
- Tutoring, teaching, coaching, childcare, mentoring, or youth leadership experience is a plus
- Must be dependable, calm, patient, and able to support students with both academic and behavioral challenges
This is a part-time, hourly position with flexible scheduling depending on school needs and candidate availability.
