As a part-time Learning Commons Assistant, one has the primary responsibility of performing library circulation duties, customer service at various Learning Commons point-of-contact desks, and test proctoring assistance in the Testing Center. The Library & Learning Commons encompasses Hay Library, the Peer Tutoring & Writing Center, and the Testing Center. This role requires flexibility and a willingness to shift quickly between a variety of tasks in all three service zones.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

1. Provide excellent customer service to student, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
2. Supervise student workers including processing of library materials, shelving, maintenance duties, shelf reading, closing procedures and any other assigned duties.
3. Provides basic information and reference service in person, over the telephone and by e-mail.
4. Staff various service desks to provide customer service for library reference and circulation, and tutoring and testing session scheduling.
5. Assist in the Testing Center; signing in testers, preparing test materials and computers, proctoring tests, and securely collecting completed test materials.
6. Oversees the Circulation Desk; finding and shelving materials, patron registration and maintenance of their records, and charging/discharging materials.
7. Provides a continuum of library services when the regular staff is not available. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
8. Troubleshoots equipment including copy machines, computers, scanners, and microfilm machine.
9. May open or close the library or tutoring and testing centers using established procedures including opening doors, activating or deactivating service computers, and turning on or off all appropriate light switches.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)
1. One – Two years of customer service work related experience.
2. Experience in using basic library research tools and databases.
3. Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn library-related computer programs, particularly WYLD-SIRSI DYNIX, and Internet functions.
4. Ability to project professional, congenial, and confidential skills when dealing with students, employees and the public. Knowledge of correct telephone techniques.
Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be accepted.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Library work experience.
2. Associates degree or higher
3. Test proctoring experience.
