Learning Support Assistant

GEMS School of Research and Innovation is seeking an exceptional Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our Inclusion Department.

Key Accountabilities
  • Embrace and uphold the ethos and standards of excellence as defined by the GEMS Core Values.
  • Ensure GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
  • Demonstrate initiative and commitment beyond the typical workday when required.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by line managers or supervisors.
Support for the Pupil
  • Supervise and provide individual support for the named pupil in line with IEP targets, ensuring their safety and engagement in learning activities, including specialist lessons.
  • Facilitate one-to-one or small-group learning activities, as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively to promote confidence and independence.
  • Assist pupils in developing skills within both the curriculum and IEP frameworks.
  • Adjust planned activities as necessary to ensure full access to learning and progress.
  • Encourage positive interaction with peers and engagement in teacher-led activities.
  • Promote pupils' self-esteem, independence, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning and develop pupil competence in its use.
  • Supervise pupils during play, transitions, and arrival/departure times.
  • Provide informal feedback to pupils regarding progress and achievement.
  • Maintain high expectations of the pupil, respecting cultural, linguistic, and social diversity.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Attend swimming lessons as required, under the direction of the Head of Inclusion or PE.
  • Report any pupil absences directly to the Head of Inclusion.
Support for the Teacher
  • Assist in lesson preparation and setting up learning materials for the named pupil.
  • Work within the framework set by the teacher to plan the LSA's role in lessons and feedback.
  • Monitor pupil participation and progress, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Record pupil achievements and progress as directed by the teacher or Head of Inclusion.
  • Share any concerns or positive developments with the teacher and relevant colleagues.
  • Support test administration, exam invigilation, and routine marking as directed.
  • Accompany pupils on educational visits, assuming responsibility under teacher supervision.
  • Communicate with parents via the LSA diary and monthly IEP-based reports.
  • Maintain accurate files of IEPs, records, and relevant documentation.
Support for the Curriculum
  • Deliver structured and agreed learning activities, adapting them as needed.
  • Refer to learning objectives appropriate to the pupil's stage (EYFS, National Curriculum, etc.).
  • Attend relevant meetings, including IEP reviews and CPD sessions.
Support for the School
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding pupil information and school matters.
  • Comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies.
  • Promote equality and inclusion across all school activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with the classroom teacher, Head of Inclusion, and wider staff team.
  • Participate in training, induction, and staff development activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of classroom support services.
  • Model professionalism in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff and respect their roles.
  • In the event of absence, contact the Deputy Principal directly in line with school policy.
