Job Summary

The Office is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant (Legal Secretary) in the Employment, Torts, and Public Utilities Commission Division at our Town Square Tower office location. Specifically, this position will support attorneys and paralegals as directed by the supervisor.

This work includes but is not limited to:

  • Preparing legal documents and briefs
  • E-Filing
  • Serving legal documents
  • Opening and closing files
  • Retaining records
  • Transcribing documents
  • Saving documents to drives

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework) after successful completion of onboarding and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a legal administrative assistant training program or certification, or experience as a legal administrative assistant
  • Skill in:
    • Using legal terminology and procedures sufficient to draft documents and correspondence
    • Word processing sufficient to prepare, edit, finalize legal documents and/or other documents and types of written communication that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors
    • Data entry sufficient to maintain accurate records and reports
  • Ability to:
    • Manage and address customers, clients, coworkers, and opposing counsel concerns tactfully and thoroughly
    • Create file, retrieve, and destroy electronic records according to retention data schedules
  • Knowledge of typing/keyboarding sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy, such as transcription

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two of more years as a legal administrative assistant
  • Knowledge of:
    • Legal documents that include but are not limited to legal pleadings, briefs, appellate court notices and motions, memoranda of law, legislation, transcripts, delegation orders, correspondence, search warrants, complaints, memos, charts, service letters and affidavits of service
    • E-filing procedures in various courts
  • Transcription experience
  • Ability to coordinate with a diverse clientele in a legal setting to include staff attorneys, client agencies, court personnel, and opposing counsel

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds
