Legal and Paralegal Studies Program Director

Generations College is searching for a full-time Program Director for its Legal and Paralegal Studies program at Generations College. The program provides a strong foundation for college students to prepare them for careers as professional paralegals. Founded in 1904, Generations College is Chicago’s first and finest two-year, private, nonprofit college offering the nation’s premier business and legal programs

The Legal and Paralegal Studies Program Director reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs and is responsible for ensuring the quality of the program.

Specific responsibilities are:

Instruction

  • Provide a model of teaching excellence in the program that supports the mission, vision, and values of the College
  • Teach 15 credit hours during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Program Administration

  • Research and implement new technologies.
  • Recruit, hire (with the approval of the Dean of Academic Affairs), supervise and evaluate adjunct faculty in the program
  • Research, develop, and implement new related programs that advance student knowledge and career prospects
  • Assign faculty to specific courses each semester
  • Provide the College’s syllabus template to each adjunct faculty member;
  • Collect and review syllabi for all program courses, ensuring syllabi conform to academic standards and the template
  • Prepare materials and tests; grade papers; assign coursework; and provide consistent encouragement and motivation.
  • Map curriculum to program outcomes and College competencies and ensure that course syllabi specify how courses meet outcomes and competencies
  • Conduct regular assessment of courses and program outcomes, make improvements based on assessment data, and record data-based improvements in annual assessment reports
  • Make ongoing data-based changes to improve and update curriculum and program offerings to achieve program excellence
  • Implement the program strategic plans, review the strategic plan annually, and recommend updates as needed based on new data
  • Participate in student orientation, admissions events, staff meetings and retreats
  • Work with the Dean of Academic Affairs to update academic policies, provide information for e-catalog, identify and meet student support need; and develop new courses when needed
  • Maintain standards for HLC accreditation and participate in institutional reaccreditation process
  • Maintain standards for ABA approval and prepare and maintain documentation for re-approval process and visit
  • Remain professionally active in discipline and in teaching and learning
  • Lead discipline-specific accreditation and implementation of best practices in the program
  • Develop and maintain an active advisory board and/or community feedback mechanism
  • Work with the Dean of Academic Affairs to provide professional development for adjunct faculty
  • Review program marketing materials

Student Support and Advising

  • Develop appropriate experiential learning opportunities for students in the program.
  • Meet with students who have academic issues that have not been resolved through discussions with instructors
  • Provide students with academic advising and career guidance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctorate from an ABA approved college/university
  • Prior teaching experience is a plus
  • Model and serve as a leader within the existing Generation College’s culture of great integrity, innovation, persistence, advancement, hard work, collaboration, diversity, and community

Preferred-

  • Preference for those candidates who already have experience in academic administration and/or teaching in a higher education setting
  • Preference for those candidates who have experience with online learning, specifically Canvas and Ellucian

Salary: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year or commensurate with experience

Schedule:

  • 9am-5pm
  • Monday to Friday

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Chicago, IL 60602. Must be willing to work on campus 2-3 days per week (T-TH)
