Job Overview

We're looking for a highly detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to become the firm's specialist in billing and financial management while providing critical case support. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess a strong aptitude for numbers, and be eager to learn and grow within the firm, particularly in the areas of immigration and family law.

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities

This position has two primary focus areas: Firm Billing Management and Client/Case Support.

1. Firm Billing Management (Primary Focus)

  • Take ownership of the firm's billing cycle, including generating pre-bills, preparing and finalizing client invoices, and ensuring timely distribution.
  • Manage accounts receivable, track client payments, and follow up on outstanding invoices.
  • Maintain client ledger accuracy and reconcile billing records.
  • Process and track expense reports related to cases.
  • Become the power-user for the firm's billing and practice management software.

2. Client & Case Support

  • Conduct initial client intakes for immigration and family law matters, including gathering essential information and preparing new client files.
  • Assist attorneys with the preparation of documents for case filings.
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate client meetings.
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic case files and document management systems.
  • Perform administrative duties, including transcription, filing, and managing correspondence.

3. Professional Growth & Case Work

  • Over time, there will be opportunities to grow into more substantive casework, including drafting routine legal documents, assisting with legal research, and preparing exhibits.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, Biller, or in a similar role within a professional office environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of comfort managing financial data and invoicing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for client interactions during the intake process.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • A genuine interest in immigration law, family law, and guardianships is a significant plus.

We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the legal field and eager to take on a central, vital role in the firm's financial operations while growing their case-management skills.

Job Type: Part-time

Projected Total Compensation: $16.50 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
