Legal Assistant

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Assistant to join our dynamic immigrat nonprofit . The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support across various practice areas, including estate planning, environmental law, family law, litigation, and more. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop legal expertise in diverse fields while supporting attorneys in delivering exceptional client service. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing case files, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and ensuring smooth office operations. Strong organizational skills, proficiency with legal software, and effective communication are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with case management using document management systems such as iManage, PCLaw, and LexisNexis
  • Conduct legal research across multiple practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, tribal law & regulations, patent law, and securities law
  • Draft and proofread legal documents, contracts, pleadings, and correspondence with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Manage electronic and physical filing systems to ensure proper document organization and retrieval
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate client records within case management platforms like Westlaw and legal case management software
  • Support litigation activities through document review, discovery processes, and trial preparation
  • Coordinate meetings, interviews, and appointments; handle phone etiquette professionally
  • Provide executive administrative support including scheduling, calendar management, and correspondence handling
  • Assist with client communication by preparing reports and summaries as needed
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards and legal procedures at all times

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal with familiarity in multiple practice areas such as estate planning, family law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, or litigation preferred
  • Strong research skills utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools
  • Proficiency with legal software including iManage, Clio, PCLaw, Document Management Systems, and data entry platforms
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear legal documents and correspondence
  • Exceptional proofreading and transcription abilities to ensure accuracy of all materials
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
  • Experience in legal administrative tasks such as filing, document review, and case management systems
  • Effective communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior experience supporting attorneys in complex legal environments is highly desirable

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.87 - $27.54 per hour
