As a function of the Waupaca County District Attorney’s Office this position performs a variety of routine and complex clerical and legal assistant work, preparing and keeping official records.
This position works under the direct supervision of the District Attorney Office Manager and the District Attorney.
Perform routine clerical work in answering phones, taking and distributing messages, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering, data processing, and preparing legal documents at the direction of the assigned supervising attorney.
Maintain electronic case file records which includes composing and preparing correspondence to court officials, attorneys, defendants and others. Preparing documentation as needed/required.
Assist with monitoring assigned attorney’s electronic calendar, which includes recognizing scheduled court events that may need pleadings, subpoenas, orders to produce or other preparedness by the prosecutor.
Prepare assigned prosecutor for Criminal Intake and Criminal Traffic Intake by ensuring all criminal complaints are charged and filed prior to initial appearances during their intake cycle.
Maintain and manage the civil traffic and forfeiture case load for the office.
Prepare and copy discovery to send to defense attorneys.
PERIPHERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other duties as assigned by the Office Manager, Assistant District Attorney’s, and District Attorney.
Assist office, other agency management, and staff as needed.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent with emphasis in general office practices.
EXPERIENCE: At least two years of legal experience, paralegal degree, or law related job preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS: Must be able to type 60 words per minute accurately.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All District Attorney staff have access to sensitive and confidential information and therefore must remain in favorable adjudication status. Employees will be fingerprinted at the time of hire and every five years thereafter. Fingerprints will be submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Justice for state and FBI criminal conviction database queries. Unfavorable adjudication will result in termination from employment.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS: Successful passing of a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) check.
