Building Services 32BJ Benefit Funds (“the Funds”) is the umbrella organization responsible for administering Health, Pension, Retirement Savings, Training, and Legal Services benefits to over 100,000 SEIU 32BJ members. Annual Salary Clarification: $67,475.12 - Per Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

Additional Pay: Plus Bilingual Differential of $2,000 annually

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Eligible for OT per business needs)


Job Summary:

The Legal Assistant Floater performs the general duties of a secretary in the Family Department and supports all of the departments within the Legal Services Fund.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles flow of work within the Family Law or assigned department.

  • Prepares letters, summons, petitions and other court documents.

  • Contacts and meets with clients to obtain factual information.

  • Provide daily administrative support, including filing, copying, scanning, preparing labels, mailing and faxing documents

  • Respond to emails and other correspondence independently and under the direction of supervisors

  • Interprets and translates for clients and/or witnesses, including written and oral translation of documents.

  • Provide coverage in all departments including Intake and the Accounting department of the Legal Services Fund as required

  • Has excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills

  • Performs related work, as required and assigned.

Qualifications (Competencies):

  • Legal Secretarial experience

  • Excellent command of English language

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish

  • Capable of working with standard legal document preparation and processing programs

  • Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced work environment

  • Able to effectively communicate with members and Fund staff and other stakeholders

  • Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently

  • Ability to adapt to ongoing change in workflow requests

  • Professional appearance necessary

Education:

Associates degree preferred. At least two years of relevant work experience required. Bookkeeping and!!Call Center experience a plus.

Language Skills:

Spanish speaking candidates required; and any additional language(s) abilities a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Notary Public license a plus.
