Firm Overview
We are a small but growing criminal defense firm dedicated exclusively to representing individuals facing state or federal criminal charges. We are seeking a skilled and reliable paralegal to play a central role in supporting attorneys and ensuring the smooth operation of the practice.
Position Summary
The Criminal Defense Paralegal will provide comprehensive support in all phases of criminal cases, from intake through trial and post-disposition matters. This role requires strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive information in a fast-paced environment. The position requires fluency in both English and Spanish.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, and file legal documents including motions, pleadings, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence
- Manage case files (physical and electronic), calendars, deadlines, and court appearances
- Coordinate with courts, prosecutors’ offices, law enforcement agencies, experts, and vendors
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, binders, and legal research
- Conduct client intake, maintain regular client communication, and manage follow-ups
- Handle administrative tasks such as billing support, time entry, and general office operations as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Professional demeanor and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a criminal defense or litigation-focused firm
- Experience reviewing and managing large volumes of discovery
