Job Description

The Freedmen Law Group seeks a motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal I to join our team. The Freedmen Law Group is a firm dedicated to providing legal services, activism, and community service. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence, and other legal documents for attorneys.
  • Filing pleadings with court clerks.
  • Implement and manage case flow tasks for pending and future cases.
  • Perform client communications via phone, email, and written correspondence including, intake; case progress; concluding cases by verifying outstanding balances and preparing settlement documents and brochures.
  • Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorneys.
  • Investigating and researching facts and laws of cases to determine causes of action and applicable laws.
  • Directing and coordinating law office activity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent calendaring, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • The ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Familiarity with MS Office.
  • Client confidentiality.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with legal case management software. (MyCase, Clio, etc.)
  • Familiarity with legal research platforms (LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.)
  • Experience in Personal Injury and/or Criminal Law Practice Areas
  • Notary Public
  • Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program, or an associate degree in paralegal studies.
  • Special Consideration for bilingual applicants.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
