Legal Case Manager

About Checkmate Law

Checkmate Law, PC is a growing plaintiff-side personal injury, lemon law, and employment law firm serving clients throughout California. Founded on the principle that "Every Move Counts," we pair aggressive client advocacy with organized, tech-forward case management. We're a small team where your work directly impacts outcomes — and where there's real room to grow as the firm scales.

The Role

We're looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Case Manager to own the pre-litigation lifecycle of our PI cases — from the day a client signs through treatment completion and demand-readiness. You'll be our clients' primary point of contact and the engine that keeps cases moving forward. This is not a back-office filing role — you'll be making things happen every day.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a caseload of active pre-litigation PI cases from intake through demand preparation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients — providing regular updates, answering questions, and ensuring they feel informed and supported (in English and Spanish)
  • Request, track, and organize medical records, billing statements, and lien information from providers
  • Coordinate client medical treatment, schedule appointments, and follow up on compliance
  • Handle property damage and loss-of-use claims with auto insurance carriers
  • Open and manage claims with insurance carriers, health insurers, Medi-Cal, and Medicare as needed
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date case files in Filevine (training provided)
  • Prepare case files and medical summaries so they're demand-ready when the time comes
  • Collaborate with the Managing Attorney on case strategy, treatment timelines, and settlement timing
  • Coordinate with the VA support team on document collection and client follow-up

What We're Looking For

  • 1–2+ years of experience in a plaintiff personal injury law firm (case manager, legal assistant, or similar role)
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written) — required
  • Familiarity with insurance claim processes, medical record requests, and provider coordination
  • Strong organizational skills — you'll be tracking deadlines, treatment timelines, and documents across many cases at once
  • Excellent client communication skills with a compassionate, professional demeanor
  • Comfort with legal technology (Filevine, e-filing platforms, document management)
  • A self-starter mentality — we need someone who follows up without being asked

Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Language:

  • Spanish (Preferred)
