Legal Counsel (Energy, Oil Trading)

Legal Counsel, Commodity Trading, (Energy & Oil). Location: Dubai, UAE.

We are currently working with a boutique global Energy Trading House based in Dubai, UAE. who are seeking a Legal Counsel to join their growing business and assist with a wide variety legal activities and frameworks. The ideal candidate for the position will be a high-energy, results-driven professional with good business acumen and problem-solving abilities. Candidates should be initiative, self-motivated, team leaders, and have an eye for new ideas and ongoing growth.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advisory support to the Crude & Refined Products trading desk, focusing on trade documentation, new projects and transactions, international commodity dealings
• Provide sharp and clear legal advice on daily transactional commodities business.
• Litigation and Alternative Dispute resolution
• Draft, review and negotiate various agreements related to energy trading, including sales and purchase, transportation agreements and other commercial agreements.
• Provide support and general advice on transactions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and provide proactive solutions to facilitate business objectives.
• Analyze regulatory matters to ensure company’s compliance, including licenses, reporting obligations, and other regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with the legal issues relating to physical commodity trading including commercial law.
• Good understanding and working knowledge of complex energy trading transactions and related risk implications.

Qualifications:

• Law Degree
• Proven expertise in negotiation and legal drafting, particularly in the energy market and trading agreements (physical and financial).
• At least 5-8+ years of relevant experience, acquired at a reputable law firm or in a similar in-house legal role.
• Strong understanding of the energy, chartering markets and trading instruments
• Familiarity with various commodity exchanges and commodity derivative trading / risk management
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to find solutions within the legal framework while considering the business drivers and needs.
