We are seeking an India-based legal executive to support our UK-qualified solicitors in delivering high-quality, compliant, and efficient legal services. This role will be strictly limited to unreserved legal activities. All work will be supervised by a UK-qualified Solicitor. The legal executive must adhere to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) regulatory boundaries and comply with strict confidentiality and data-handling protocols.
The legal executive will provide high-quality support to UK-qualified solicitors. The role is focused strictly on unreserved legal activities, performed under direct supervision of UK-qualified solicitors, in accordance with Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) rules. The legal executive will assist with document handling, client communication, drafting, research, case progression, and operational support relating to CICA matters.
The role requires strong analytical skills, excellent written communication, high attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to confidentiality and data protection.
- Key Responsibilities (Unreserved Activities Only)
The legal executive will perform only unreserved tasks, including but not limited to:
- Case Support and Administration
- Assist with day-to-day management of CICA claim files.
- Maintain case records, track deadlines, and ensure accuracy of file documentation.
- Support evidence gathering, including obtaining client information, medical records, police reports, and related documents.
- Drafting and Document Preparation
- Draft unreserved correspondence, statements, summaries, chronologies, and research memos for review by a supervising UK solicitor.
- Prepare initial drafts of CICA claim forms, schedules, and supporting submissions (subject to UK solicitor approval).
- Conduct document review and organise evidence bundles.
- Client Liaison (Within Defined Scope)
- Communicate with clients regarding factual updates and requests for information.
- Manage routine follow-ups with clients to obtain documentation or clarify factual details.
- Ensure all client communications are properly documented and escalated to supervising solicitors where necessary.
- Legal Research and Analysis
- Perform research relating to CICA Scheme provisions, guidance materials, and procedural updates.
- Summarize key findings for supervising UK solicitors to support case strategy.
- Operational and Compliance Support
- Adhere to internal policies on confidentiality, GDPR, IT security, and secure handling of sensitive personal data.
- Maintain accurate time recording and workflow documentation as required.
- Ensure that all tasks remain strictly within the scope of unreserved legal work and escalate any borderline matters immediately.
- Prohibited (Reserved) Activities
In compliance with SRA regulatory requirements, the legal executive must not, under any circumstances:
- Provide reserved legal advice or independent legal opinions.
- Exercise rights of audience or conduct litigation.
- Issue proceedings, file formal court documents, or communicate with tribunals as a representative.
- Engage in conduct reserved to authorised persons under the Legal Services Act 2007.
- Hold themselves out as a UK solicitor or authorised person.
- Make strategic or settlement decisions without instruction from a supervising UK solicitor.
All work must remain firmly within the unreserved scope and be subject to UK solicitor oversight.
- Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of legal processes, particularly personal injury or compensation-based claims (experience with CICA preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fully remote environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information securely.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation capabilities.
- Proficiency with MS Office, document-management tools, and secure IT practices.
- Qualifications and Experience
- Law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a recognised institution in India.
- Prior experience working as a legal executive or legal analyst supporting UK, US, or common-law jurisdictions is preferred.
- Experience in personal injury, compensation claims, or investigative legal work is an advantage.
- Familiarity with the CICA Scheme is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
- Reporting and Supervision Framework
- The legal executive will be fully supervised by an assigned UK-qualified solicitor.
- All work outputs must be reviewed, approved, and directed by a UK solicitor before external use.
- The legal executive must participate in scheduled supervision calls, workflow reviews, and QA processes.
- Escalation protocols must be followed for any issue involving legal judgement, case strategy, compliance risk, or reserved-activity boundaries.
- Data Protection and Information Security
Given the sensitive nature of CICA work, the following standards must be strictly adhered to:
- Compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and internal data-security protocols.
- Use of approved secure systems for document storage, communication, and case handling.
- Prohibition on use of personal devices or unsecure networks for work-related activities.
- Mandatory training in confidentiality, cyber-security, and information-handling practices.
- Working Arrangements
- Remote working arrangement from India via employer Reighway.
- Standard working hours aligned to UK business hours, unless otherwise agreed.
- Participation in virtual team meetings, supervision sessions, and ongoing professional development.
- Occasional flexibility may be required to align with UK case deadlines or client needs.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and quality of drafted documents.
- Compliance with SRA-aligned processes and regulatory boundaries.
- Timeliness in completing assigned tasks.
- Responsiveness and reliability in supervised workflows.
- Adherence to confidentiality, GDPR, and internal information-security standards.
- Positive feedback from supervising UK solicitors.
Important Note: Candidates are expected to attend the interview having prepared an overview and working understanding of CICA claims and procedures, together with an awareness of the relevant regulatory requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
