Our client SHARP Pakistan (Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid) is looking for a Legal Officers in Peshawar.

  • Getting access to prisons of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and conduct comprehensive assessment of the gaps and challenges and its documentations.
  • Advise the Prions’ authorities to incorporate best international practices in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide legal counselling and representation in courts, handle Foreigner Act cases and other minor offences where appropriate of the beneficiaries.
  • Draft petitions, bail applications, mercy petitions and appeals and conduct regular visits to jails meeting detainees considering the principles of safety, dignity, confidentiality and Do No Harm.
  • Maintain case files and update case-tracking database.
  • Provide monthly legal reports and success stories.
  • Receive walk-in beneficiaries and provide/assist managing the helplines and providing relevant, accurate and timely information.
  • Organize and facilitate awareness-raising sessions/legal camps in the communities and detention facilities. .
  • Identify GBV survivors, facilitate and follow up on the incoming and outgoing protection referral cases.
  • Work closely with the psychologists for integrated support.
  • Support organizing of legal camps, meetings with the duty bearers, stakeholders, COSs, media, NGOs/INGOs, UN Aid agencies and parliamentarians and support the management in task force development and facilitation
  • Comply with all relevant Organization policies and procedures / Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including Code of conduct.
  • Liaise with KP Prisons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA) Bar counsels, courts, police, public prosecutors, academia and home department.
  • Tracking and managing court cases both in hard and soft files.
  • Document findings of needs assessments, including preparation of reports and other relevant documents.
  • Assist the management with maintaining Organization’s archiving system and keeping it up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically).
  • Assist the management in designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates.
  • Assist the management in conducting the capacity building training of stakeholders and duty bearers
  • Contribute to the development of referral mechanisms for legal matters.
  • Responsible for liaison with beneficiaries, including, understanding the needs of beneficiaries through regular visits and frequent contact with actual and potential beneficiaries.
  • Assist in providing information to, and cooperation with, the community representatives and relevant authorities.
  • Attend and participate in coordination meetings when delegated by the supervisor.
