Conviction Integrity Group is seeking a Legal Research Analyst to support our Lead Investigator in post conviction case work. This role is best suited for someone who is highly detail oriented, analytical, and passionate about wrongful conviction and post conviction relief work.
This is not a paralegal position. This role is designed as an apprenticeship style position for someone looking to gain hands on experience in criminal investigations, case analysis, and post conviction strategy.
The Legal Research Analyst will be responsible for reviewing case materials, identifying key legal and factual issues, and preparing detailed synopsis reports that will guide investigative strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze case files including trial transcripts, police reports, discovery, and appellate records
- Prepare clear, detailed case synopsis reports for the Lead Investigator
- Identify potential constitutional violations, including but not limited to:
- Brady violations
- Ineffective assistance of counsel
- Due process violations
- Newly discovered evidence and actual innocence claims
- Assist in developing investigative strategies based on case findings
- Conduct legal and factual research related to post conviction writs and relief options
- Locate and help track down witnesses relevant to the case
- Assist in coordinating and scheduling witness interviews
- Organize and maintain digital case files and documentation
- Summarize witness statements, affidavits, and investigative findings
- Assist with drafting investigative timelines and case chronologies
- Communicate with internal team members regarding case progress and findings
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of post conviction relief processes, including habeas corpus writs
- Familiarity with constitutional law principles related to criminal cases
- Knowledge of Brady violations, actual innocence claims, and ineffective assistance of counsel
- Excellent reading comprehension and analytical skills
- Strong writing ability with the ability to summarize complex information clearly and concisely
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently in a structured environment
Preferred Background
- Experience in criminal law, investigations, or legal research
- Prior work with post conviction cases or innocence projects
- Criminal justice, legal studies, or related field education or experience
