Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Legal Spend Analytics Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the delivery and evolution of legal spend analytics services for corporate legal teams. This role sits at the intersection of legal operations, analytics, and client advisory.

The SME will work closely with in-house legal teams, law firms, and internal delivery teams to translate legal spend data into defensible, actionable insight—supporting cost control, governance, forecasting, and panel management.

This is a hands-on mid-level leadership role suited to someone who has worked extensively with legal spend data, understands the operational realities of legal teams, and can guide both clients and internal teams on best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Spend Analytics Leadership

• Lead end-to-end legal spend analytics engagements across corporate clients
• Define analytical frameworks for invoice review, spend visibility, accruals, forecasting, and panel performance
• Translate raw eBilling, matter, and contract data into clear, defensible insights

Client Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

• Understand and articulate common pain points across corporates and law firms
• Support client conversations around legal spend control, budgeting, accruals, and panel optimization
• Assist with pre-sales and solution design discussions as a subject matter expert

Tool & Technology Expertise

• Work with leading legal spend and eBilling platforms (e.g. Legal Tracker, Brightflag, Onit, SAP, Mitratech tools)
• Leverage CLM data to enrich spend and matter analytics where relevant
• Advise on best practices for tool configuration, data quality, and analytics usage
• Operate comfortably across multiple client tool environments without system replacement

Analytics & Operational Excellence

• Define KPIs and metrics for legal spend analysis
• Guide anomaly detection, rate analysis, billing compliance checks, and trend analysis
• Review and validate analytical outputs for accuracy, explainability, and client readiness
• Support the development of repeatable analytics playbooks and methodologies

Team & Knowledge Leadership

• Mentor analysts and legal ops team members
• Contribute to internal knowledge assets, templates, and best practices
• Stay current on legal operations, spend management, and regulatory trends in the target markets

Required Experience & Skills

Experience

• 7+ years’ experience in legal operations, legal spend analytics, or legal advisory roles
• Direct experience working with corporate legal teams and external law firms
• Hands-on exposure to legal spend tools and eBilling platforms, with strong analytics focus
• Experience supporting legal spend reporting, forecasting, accruals
• Exposure to CLM systems and understanding how contract data can inform legal analytics
• Experience in an LPO, legal consultancy, ALSP, or legal technology environment preferred

• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex legal spend data
• Ability to explain insights clearly to non-technical legal and finance stakeholders
• Deep understanding of law firm billing models, rate structures, and panel arrangements
• Comfortable working across multiple data sources and imperfect data sets
• High attention to detail and strong quality control instincts
• Confident, consultative communication style

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in law, legal operations, finance, or data analytics
• Experience working with UK/US legal teams
• Prior involvement in legal ops transformation or spend optimisation initiatives

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to ₹2,800,000.00 per year
