Job Summary
The Lending Specialist assists members with their loan needs by providing exceptional service through phone and online interactions. This role engages members in thoughtful financial conversations to identify needs, recommend solutions, and deliver a positive lending experience. ** This is a Hybrid/St. Louis position **
Job Responsibilities

- Engages members through phone and online channels to provide information, financial guidance, and recommendations on Credit Union products and services
- Processes loan applications, analyzes eligibility, assesses risk, prepares documentation, obtains approval, closes loans, and delivers decisions to members
- Analyzes members’ financial standing and credit reports, including calculating debt-to-income ratios to determine loan eligibility
- Identifies opportunities to consolidate debt or refinance loans held by other institutions, promoting Credit Union solutions that meet member needs
- Maintains required reports and work queues to ensure timely and accurate loan processing
- Partners with internal departments to support title work, payoff information, and other follow-up items
- Supports Contact Center operations by managing overflow calls and assisting with loan-related inquiries and applications
- Ensures loan documentation and processing comply with all applicable regulations and internal policies
- Focuses on achieving service standards and contributing to Net Promoter Score (NPS) goals
- Promotes positive relationships between members, internal partners, and the Credit Union
Required Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years related professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year experience in consumer lending, loan processing, or a financial services environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
- Strong understanding of system utilization, lending, and Credit Union products to find lending options for all member needs
- Understanding of principles involved in various types of loans, including those granted, insured, or guaranteed by institutions
- Familiarity with the financial structures and practices of businesses and organizations
- Ability to analyze financial data and assess credit risk
- Proficiency in guiding members through the loan application process and addressing their queries
- Skilled in marketing loan products and services, and actively soliciting new business
- Competence in making informed decisions regarding loan approvals and risk assessments
- Strong oral and written communication skills to present information clearly and effectively
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members and other stakeholders

- Hybrid work environment (combination of remote & onsite); requires regular use of online tools, systems, and collaboration platforms
