Level 3 Nursery Nurse (SEND)

Ellesmere Children’s Centre is a warm, inclusive, and community-focused early years setting dedicated to providing a safe, caring, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. Our approach is centred on play, curiosity, and meaningful experiences that support children’s learning and wellbeing.

We are now seeking an enthusiastic and caring Level 3 Nursery Nurse to join our friendly team. This is a SEND-focused position, and applicants must have completed SEND training, have experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and be confident in supporting the nursery SEND role, including completing referrals and liaising with outside agencies. Candidates should show initiative, work well as part of a team, and have at least 2 years of experience working within an early years environment.

Purpose of the Role

To work collaboratively with the nursery team to provide high-quality care and education for all children, including those with additional needs. You will help create a nurturing, stimulating environment that supports each child’s development, encourages positive behaviour, and promotes inclusion and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment that supports children’s learning and development.
  • Work within the staff team to plan and deliver age-appropriate activities following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Observe, track, and plan for key children’s individual progress, including children with SEND or IEPs, ensuring all needs are met.
  • Support children with additional needs through inclusive practice and tailored learning opportunities.
  • Take an active role in supporting SEND provision within the nursery, including completing referrals, maintaining SEND documentation, and liaising with external professionals and agencies.
  • Support the nursery SEND role and contribute to implementing strategies and interventions for children with additional needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with parents and carers, keeping them involved in their child’s learning journey.
  • Follow all nursery policies and procedures, particularly regarding safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality.
  • Support senior staff in delivering a rich and varied curriculum that enables children to achieve their early learning goals.
  • Contribute to the creation of engaging activity areas and displays that inspire curiosity and exploration.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential child records and documentation.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and continuous professional development to enhance your skills and stay up to date with best practice.

About You

You are a caring, motivated, and dedicated early years practitioner with a passion for helping children learn and grow. You work well both independently and as part of a supportive team.

Essential qualities and requirements:

  • Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within an early years or nursery setting.
  • Completed SEND training with practical experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience completing SEND referrals, maintaining relevant documentation, and working alongside outside agencies and professionals.
  • Ability to take on and support the nursery SEND role confidently and effectively.
  • Strong understanding of the EYFS and child development.
  • Good standard of general education, including literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Confident using basic technology (computer, photocopier, tablet, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and contribute positively to the nursery environment.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Pay: £12.71 per hour
