Job Summary

The Service Technician functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean, notifying Service Advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Monitors Technician certification status within the Team as required.
  • May perform other duties as requested.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Need to earn the certification relevant to Manufacturer on a yearly basis.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle preventive maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of internet software and order processing system.
  • Must have a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record which shall be reviewed by Human Resources as needed.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • ASE / T-Ten / Factory / Brand Certifications preferred.
  • Automotive repair experience.
  • Dealership experience preferred.

  • Intermediate reasoning capabilities such as the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand and walk, and occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, smell, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Employee must be able to use different type of equipment and/or tools: lifts, jacks, computers, air compressors, etc.

The employee is expected to make quick decisions, communicate with visitors or customers, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity objectives and/or sales quota.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to indoor shop conditions with chemical hazards, heavy objects, etc. With occasional outdoor weather conditions.

The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually above moderate.

Other:

· Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

· Due to the critical nature of the automotive industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the dealership. In addition, attendance at all schedule training sessions and meetings is required.

· Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Company rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the facility.
