1. Oversee the Library Learning Commons to ensure cleanliness, order, and protection of the library’s resources
2. Develop and organize library inventory (e.g. with books, collections, periodicals, multimedia, etc.)
3. Conduct regular checks and updates on database information
4. Publish and update content on the library’s website (e.g. book summaries, reviews, blog, etc.)
5. Research and implement new information system techniques
6. Organize activities and promotional events (e.g. children’s storytelling, author readings, book sales, etc.)
7. Experience in using computers and working with electronic databases
8. Familiarity with information management systems
9. Respond to requests in person, over the phone, or via email to answer questions and locate information
10. Teach a variety of skills to students, particularly research skills
11. Keep up with information management trends
12. Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques
13. Consult teachers on appropriate use of materials and help them schedule materials for classroom instruction
14. Effectively plan school library program to meet identified needs
15. Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources
16. Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students
17. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
18. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings
19. Communicate effectively with administration, colleagues, students, and parents
20. Check books in and out of the library
21. Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies
22. Review and evaluate resource material, such as book reviews and catalogs, in order to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources
23. Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems
24. Develop library policies and procedures
25. Evaluate materials to determine outdated or unused items to be discarded
26. Develop information access aids
27. Assemble and arrange display materials
28. Confer with teachers, parents, and community organizations to develop, plan, and conduct programs in reading, viewing, and communication skills
29. Compile lists of overdue materials, and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue
30. Design information storage and retrieval systems, and develop procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information
31. Develop and index databases that provide information for library users
Perform public relations work for the library, such as giving book reviews and community talks
