LIBRARIAN
Job Description
The Librarian reports to the applicable Division Director and is an integral part of the educational support team. They are responsible for creating an environment that celebrates knowledge, supporting and stimulating students' natural curiosity, and fostering collaboration and creative problem solving.
Responsibilities
Assist students, faculty, and staff in conducting research and locating resources
Advance the academic and research interests of the school in alignment with the school’s mission and vision of education
Keep and file historical records and documents relating to the existence of the library.
Oversee the daily operations of the library including organizing the physical space, managing circulation, repairing books, and supervising parent volunteers to ensure the community has what they need to learn and explore topics of interest
Evaluate library inventory needs and places orders as needed, affirming the identities of all members of the community and ensuring the library collection is inclusive and diverse
Identify technology needs and makes analogous recommendations
Read and confer with children to assess and support students’ development of fluency, decoding, and comprehension
Collaborate with Group teachers to create individual and group learning plans
Monitor students during additional duties such as lunch, recess, before- and after-school library
Stay abreast of current and new literature to meet students’ individual needs and interests
Attend weekly staff meetings as required (Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m.)
Requirements
3-5 years experience working in research or school library
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, or related field
Knowledge of effective classroom and library-media management techniques
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and research skills
Proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and cataloging platforms such as Alexandria
Familiarity with NYSTL a plus
Ability to network with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school for mutual development
Must be able to lift and or move up to 40 pounds unassisted
Valid First Aid, Adult and Infant CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency a plus
This position has a salary range of $74,295 – 91,422 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This full-time bargaining unit position is in-person five days per week at the school’s campus in Manhattan’s West Village.
