The Librarian leads the school library's operations while serving as an instructional partner who supports teaching, learning, and student engagement across academic and vocational programs. The role focuses on integrating information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship into curriculum and instruction; ensuring equitable access to high-quality print and digital resources; and promoting reading, inquiry, and lifelong learning. Working collaboratively with educators, administrators, and the Library Assistant, the Librarian advances student achievement, college and career readiness, and school improvement priorities through instructional support, responsible use of information and technology, and continuous program improvement.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Aligned to AASL National School Library Standards, Massachusetts DESE Expectations, and Vocational & Technical Education Programs)Program Leadership & OperationsManage daily operations of the library and associated learning spacesDevelop and implement library services aligned with school & district improvement goalsPrepare and manage the library budget; recommend purchases and resource allocationsEstablish and implement library policies, procedures, and circulation systemsSupervise and train assigned staff, student assistants, and/or volunteersMaintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive library environmentPromote library programs and resources through schoolwide communications and initiativesInstructional Partnership & Curriculum SupportCollaborate with academic and vocational staff to support instruction, research, inquiry-based learning, and assessmentsServe as an instructional partner integrating information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship across disciplines and career pathwaysProvide instruction to individuals, small groups, and classes in research and inquiry skills; information, digital, and media literacy; and ethical use of information, including citation and copyrightSupport schoolwide literacy initiatives and promote a culture of reading and lifelong learningDigital Literacy & Resource ManagementCurate, evaluate, and manage print and digital resources aligned with curricula, vocational frameworks, and industry standardsSupport effective and responsible use of technology, databases, and instructional mediaCollaborate with instructional staff and the Director of Technology to support DESE-aligned technology and media literacy expectationsEquity, Access & Community EngagementEnsure equitable access to high-quality instructional resources for all studentsMaintain a diverse, inclusive, and culturally responsive collectionPromote reading for academic success, career readiness, and personal enrichmentProfessional Collaboration & GrowthSupport educator professional learning through instructional resources and research supportProvide orientation and support for new staffParticipate in professional development and relevant professional organizationsProgram Evaluation & EngagementUse data to monitor library usage and instructional impactSupport programs and events that strengthen student engagement and school-community connectionsPerform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent-DirectorWORK ENVIRONMENT: May be exposed to low-level ultraviolet light emitted from computer monitors, copying equipment, and related office technology.May be exposed to chemicals associated with copying equipment, printers, and standard office supplies.Ability to lift, move, and set up library and technology-related equipment, including computers, peripherals, and related materials.Ability to manage library operations, including shelving, inventory management, organization of materials, and routine physical tasks associated with library maintenance.Occasional public speaking may be required for professional development, presentations, meetings, or school and community events.Ability to work flexibly to support instructional needs, library programming, and special events.Ability to work flexibly to lead and support classroom instruction, special events, and school programs.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month, school-year position (183 days).Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the Teachers Contract.Fringe benefits as outlined in the Teachers Contract.EVALUATION: As per the Teachers Contract.
