Serves as general reference librarian. Recommends, interprets, and/or uses information resources to help patrons with specific information needs. Designs and implements educational programs for children, youth, and adults to meet the needs and interests of the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Assists patrons with finding and using information, in person, via phone, or online; provides information regarding services, programs, and resources available through the library; instructs how to use library resources. Plans, develops, and implements programs for all members of the community. Develops information and computer literacy programs. Writes news releases and articles to promote library programs and services. Maintains statistics and generates reports related to operations and programs.Helps develop library collection strategies, acquiring new library materials, and continuously monitoring professional selection tools. Participates in inventory activities for the library collection. Collaborates with collection weeding, reviews book donations, and prepares book sales of discarded materials.Participates in ongoing training and continuing education of cutting-edge professional practices; attends professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences. Conducts outreach and volunteers with other agencies. Provides library instruction, including bibliographic instruction and library orientation activities. Required Education and ExperienceValid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment. As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
