JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Librarian - Programs is responsible for planning and implementing educational classes and events, promoting literacy and library services in the community, and providing general public library services. Additionally, every library staff member’s first responsibility is to provide the highest level of front-line customer service by following these principles: consistency, equitable treatment of all patrons, active listening, going one step further, and doing the right thing.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interacts with and builds relationships with library patrons by providing information, readers’ advisory services, and assistance in person, by telephone, chat, and email.
  • Assists and instructs patrons in the use of the library catalog, room reservation system, internet, electronic digital resources, office equipment, mobile devices, and other technology.
  • Performs general library operation tasks, including, but not limited to, item check out and check in, shelving and retrieving items, maintaining order in the shelves, maintaining a pleasant and orderly environment in the library, resolving library account issues, and receiving payments for fees and services.
Plans and implements classes and events, primarily for adults and families.

  • Promotes library services to patrons and the community and plans and attends outreach events.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field of librarianship through attendance at conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of library records.
  • Participates in the “Librarian-in-Charge” night and weekend rotation and is responsible for building and staffing during assigned Librarian-in-Charge shifts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Good internet searching skills, familiarity with mobile devices and apps, and knowledge of social media.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Master’s Degree in Library Science is required. Koha ILS, SharePoint/Office365/Teams experience preferred. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Requires sitting, standing, walking, and some pushing. No dynamic strength demands. Must maintain static, postural positions. Repetitive movement of the wrist and fingers during computer data input, reaching. Some light lifting may be required, but it is not an essential job function. No environmental variables. Works indoors in a controlled environment.
