HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

  • High School Diploma, Hi SET or G.E.D.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills with ability to operate district software programs.
  • One of the following: (1) 48 credit hours post-secondary education, or (2) associate’s degree or higher, or (3)Para educator certification from Board of Educational Examiners, or (4) combined score of 150 or higher on the COMPASS test, or (5) a passing score on the AcuPlacer test.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:


  • Previous library work or volunteer experience.
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools.
  • Ability to manage inventory and provide basic technology troubleshooting and support.


BASIC FUNCTION:


The Library and Digital Learning Associate supports a dynamic modern learning environment by combining traditional library services with district-wide digital literacy initiatives. This role assists teachers and students in accessing and using library and media resources while actively promoting digital literacy skills aligned with DMPS standards. The associate collaborates with educators to reinforce classroom instruction and integrate technology effectively, and also provides essential organizational and clerical functions to maintain library collections. Additionally, the position includes a technology support component, such as maintaining inventory for elementary student computing devices and coordinating basic repairs to ensure smooth operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Create and maintain an inviting, inclusive library/media center environment, ensuring open access for students and staff during school hours.
  • Assist teachers and students in using library and media resources while supporting district literacy and digital literacy initiatives, reinforcing classroom instruction, and promoting responsible technology use.
  • Collaborate with educators to integrate media and technology resources into instruction, and participate in ongoing professional learning related to digital literacy and technology integration.
  • Manage circulation, organization, and clerical functions for library and textbook collections, including recordkeeping, overdue notifications, and processing of new materials.
  • Maintain accurate financial and budget records, prepare and submit materials orders, and process incoming resources including shelving shelf-ready items and copy-cataloging as needed.
  • Repair library materials as needed and conduct annual inventory of books, textbooks, and other learning resources.
  • Use automated systems to generate reports, teacher book lists, and classroom checkout lists, ensuring accurate records of materials.
  • Maintain records of lost, missing, or newly added materials, notifying students, teachers, and families as required.
  • Create library displays and exhibits to promote resources, literacy, and digital learning.
  • Assist with basic student technology troubleshooting (e.g., login issues, simple hardware or software checks), promoting student self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of student computing devices, including distribution, collection, tracking, and coordinating basic repairs following district protocols.
  • Escalate technology issues beyond basic troubleshooting using district ticketing systems and protocols.
  • Serve as building point of contact for Technology Operations communications and coordination.
  • Attend staff, district, and library associate meetings, contributing to school-wide literacy and digital learning initiatives.

DAYS: 190 Day Calendar HOURS: 7.5 hours/day


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant: Standing, walking. Frequent: Bending/Stooping, Reaching/Pushing/Pulling. Occasional: Sitting, climbing/stairs, lifting (50 lbs), carrying (25 ft). Never: Driving. Manual Dexterity Tasks: Frequent: Computer. Occasional: Telephone, other.
