Position Summary:

The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Archives at Torreyson Library, located on the
University of Central Arkansas campus, seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, highly
organized, and flexible individual to support a team of dedicated professionals who promote accessibility of archival collections for students, community members, and researchers. The Archives Library Support Specialist will be the primary source for providing reference and research services to UCA faculty, staff, students, and community researchers. Under the direction of the Head of Special Collections/University Archivist, this position will be responsible for accessioning and processing small archival collections in compliance with current archival best practices, creating descriptive metadata for finding aids and online descriptive records, training and supervising archival student workers, and leading archival access through online reference and in-person research appointments. Position routines and workflows require attention to multiple competing priorities in scheduling, the ability to handle multiple competing deadlines, and the ability to work independently, setting priorities and goals. As the primary source of reference, research support, and access for the archives, the position performs public service duties, answers patron inquiries, and oversees collection security during archival research appointments. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm During holidays and academic breaks, this schedule may change. This position reports to the Head of Special Collections/University Archivist. This will be a library staff appointment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arranges and describes archival collections for accessibility using professional best practices
  • Accessions and creates the preliminary inventory for incoming archival materials
  • Coordinates and oversees archival research appointments online and in-person
  • Provides patron assistance through research assistance requests online
  • Oversees the security of materials in the reading room
  • Provides support to guide researchers through the archival online registration process
  • Provides digitization requests for patrons
  • Facilitates outreach through tours and community events
  • Digitizes archival materials according to professional standards for upload into the UCA Archives digital content management system
  • Participates in descriptive metadata creation and remediation
  • Creates engaging patron displaysfor exhibit in the UCA Archives
  • Acts as a leader in the social media design for the University of Central Arkansas Archives
  • Assists the Head of Special Collections/University Archivist with supervising interns
  • Trains and supervises archival student workers
  • Opens the UCA Archives reading room
  • Retrieves and reshelves archival materials
  • Creates finding aids for collections using Describing Archives: A Content Standard
  • Acts as a leader in the social media design for the University of Central Arkansas Archives
  • Supervises the Library Archives Technician and student workers
  • Assists with internship programs, including supervising interns as needed
  • Participates in strategic planning for the archive with the Head of Special Collections/University Archivist

Required Education and/or Experience:

The formal education equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree is required; four to six years of relevant library and/or professional budgetary experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. Three years of archives or library experience is requiredPreferred Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in history or a related field is preferred
  • Knowledge of the history of the state of Arkansas
  • Prior experience in archives or museums is preferred

Pay: $34,333.00 per year
