GENERAL SUMMARY
Job Title: Library Aide – Youth Services Support

Location: Perry Cook Memorial Library
Reports To: Library Director / Youth Services Coordinator

Position Summary

The Library Aide – Youth Services Support assists with daily library operations with a primary focus on supporting services, programs, and activities for children and families. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment that promotes early literacy, learning, and positive library experiences for young patrons.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation, setup, and cleanup of children’s programs, including storytimes, crafts, and special events

Provide friendly and helpful service to children, caregivers, and other library patrons

Help maintain children’s areas, including organizing materials, shelving books, and ensuring a safe, clean environment

Support circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and assisting with basic patron inquiries

Encourage participation in library programs such as Summer Reading and other youth initiatives

Assist in creating simple displays, crafts, and activity materials for children’s programming

Monitor behavior in youth areas and promote a respectful, inclusive atmosphere

Help with outreach efforts and special events as needed

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred (or currently enrolled)

Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or library setting preferred

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Friendly, patient, and dependable with a positive attitude

Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team

Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds

Ability to move library materials and set up program spaces

Work Schedule

Part-time; may include evenings and occasional weekends based on programming needs

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED
1. A criminal background check is required.
2. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
