Position Summary
A Library Teaching Assistant supports students, teachers, and library staff by assisting with daily library operations, promoting literacy, and helping facilitate learning activities. This role combines administrative duties with instructional support to create an engaging and organized library environment.
Student & Instructional Support
- Assist students in locating books, digital resources, and research materials
- Support literacy programs, reading initiatives, and classroom projects
- Help students develop research, information literacy, and study skills
- Provide one-on-one or small group assistance during library sessions
Library Operations
- Check books and materials in and out using the library system
- Organize, shelve, and maintain books and other resources
- Assist with cataloging, labeling, and inventory of materials
- Ensure the library space is clean, organized, and welcoming
Technology & Resource Support
- Help students and staff use computers, printers, and online databases
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues
- Support digital literacy and safe internet use
Collaboration & Communication
- Work with teachers to support curriculum-related library activities
- Assist in preparing materials for lessons, displays, or events
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and visitors
Program & Event Assistance
- Help plan and run library events (book fairs, reading challenges, etc.)
- Create displays to promote books and educational themes
- Friendly, patient, and approachable
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Interest in books, reading, and education
- Ability to multitask and work collaboratively
Job Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or higher preferred)
- NYS Teaching Certification
- Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred
- Basic computer and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
