Summary:

The Shrewsbury Public Library is seeking a friendly, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our exceptional team! We are hiring a full-time Library Assistant to serve our patrons at our circulation desk under the general direction of the Library Manager of Access Services.


In this highly visible, public-facing role, you'll help patrons of all ages access our collections, technology, and resources. A successful candidate would play an essential part in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

What You'll Do:


  • Assist patrons in finding books, using computers, and navigating library services.

  • Circulate a variety of materials—books, DVDs, video games, kits, and more.
    Provide basic technology support for public computers, printers, and scanners.

  • Support other staff on ILS functions and maintain software for museum passes

  • Keep our collections organized and accessible by shelving and maintaining materials.

  • Perform clerical tasks, direct phone calls, and help with general inquiries.

  • Be a go-to resource for library policies, while protecting patron confidentiality.

What You’ll Bring:


  • Bachelor's degree and two years of ILS experience required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills—you enjoy helping others and can do so with empathy and clarity.

  • Comfortable using computers, software applications (like Microsoft Office), and electronic databases.

  • Familiar with the Dewey Decimal System, basic research skills, and e-resources.

  • Reliable, independent, and ready to contribute to a collaborative team.


This role requires moderate physical effort, including the ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the library to assist patrons. Candidates must be able to lift and move materials up to 35 pounds and frequently push or pull book trucks weighing up to 50 pounds
