Skills & Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication, excellent customer service, and a keen attention to detail. Must be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, multitasking, taking initiative, and handling difficult patron interactions. Must be skilled in personal computer operations, including MS Office and general office equipment. Integrated Library Software (ILS) experience required (Polaris ILS preferred). Experience using Canva preferred.

Position Overview:
As Head of Circulation, you’ll play a pivotal role in our daily operations—guiding the flow of materials, supporting patrons with account needs, and ensuring accuracy in all circulation activities. Every day offers something new, and your work will help keep our library welcoming, efficient, and full of possibility. Job duties include:

• Assists the public in selecting and locating library materials and information.
• Assists the public with the use of: print and electronic reference sources; library computers; online catalog; online resources; electronic books; and other library equipment.
• Uses Integrated Library Software (ILS) to input, organize, and locate patron and material information.
• Assists in advising the public of library policies and procedures.
• Checks in returned materials, cleaning, sorting, and returning these items to the shelves.
• Assists with library material technical processing, cataloging, and collection maintenance.
• Uses phones, computers, and email to correspond with patrons, city personnel, etc.
• Shares responsibility with all library personnel in the collection of library fines and fees.
• Monitor patron accounts for accuracy.
• Assist as administrator for daily deposit.
• Assess material damages and determine associated fees, as defined by library policies.
• Assist with staff scheduling and training.
• Recommend policy and procedure improvements to library management.
• May assist management with administrative duties, such as filing, compiling statistics, record retention and deletion, etc.
• Serves as person in charge in the absence of both Director and Library Director.
• May assist with library programming.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications:

Must have high school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of 2-5 years of work experience in municipal or similar library operations is required. Clerical or cashier/teller experience preferred. Must be willing to attend educational workshops when required.

Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and rotating Saturday hours. Must possess a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license, and driving record must be in compliance with City policy.

Must be able to bend, twist, squat, sit, stand, climb step stools up to 4ft in height, and must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
