Holyoke Community College is seeking a service-oriented, detail-focused, and adaptable individual to join the Library team as a Library Assistant III. This position plays a central role in Access Services operations, providing consistent staffing at the circulation desk and supporting the daily use of library spaces, collections, and technologies by students, faculty, and staff. The Library Assistant III is primarily responsible for student-facing service delivery, including circulation transactions, basic troubleshooting of library equipment, resource sharing support, and assistance with course reserves. The position also contributes to technical processing functions and provides operational support for the College Archives under the guidance of library leadership. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong customer service skills, comfort working in a fast-paced public service environment, and a commitment to supporting an inclusive academic community.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Access Services & Circulation: Staffs the library circulation desk and provides front-line service to students, faculty, staff, and community members.Registers library users and assists with checking materials in and out, renewals, and placing holds using the integrated library system.Maintains familiarity with library policies, procedures, and access guidelines to ensure consistent and equitable service.Assists users with library equipment and technology available for in-library use or short-term loan.Supports Interlibrary Loan and other resource-sharing activities as needed when primary staff are unavailable.Technical Processing & Collections Support: Assists with technical processing of library materials, including preparation, labeling, and basic cataloging support.Prepares and manages materials placed on course reserve in coordination with library staff.Oversees routine mending and physical upkeep of circulating materials.Archives Support: Assists the Dean of Library Services with filing, processing, indexing, preservation, scanning, and retrieval of archival materials.Supports access to archival collections in accordance with established policies and procedures.General Library Operations: Participates in library staff meetings and contributes to discussions related to workflows, policies, and service improvements.Engages in job-related assessment and training activities.Participates in mail pick-up and distribution.Performs other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope and level of the position.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Full-time, AFSCME Unit Position: Bi-Weekly salary: $2,008.85. Grade 14, plus a comprehensive State benefits package. Funding Source: State.Hours: 37.5 hours/week; flexibility needed with hours.
