Library Assistant/ Public Service Specialist

Provides services directly to patrons of all ages at the Public Service Desk and is knowledgeable about the library’s service policies and procedures.

This employee receives general supervision from the Library Director.

Supervision of other employees is not a normal responsibility of this position.

· Performs circulation-related functions using Koha, the library's integrated library system (ILS), including checking out items, renewing items, searching for items, and placing patron holds.

· Create and update patron records using Koha, including generating new records, renewing records, and updating information.

· Check in returned library material and route items to the proper library.

· Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating compassion for library users and employees; respect for user privacy and confidentiality; an eagerness to learn, and an optimistic attitude.

· Provide reference and readers’ advisory to patrons.

· Perform hold-related functions, including generating hold lists, retrieving items from library shelves, and clearing expired items.

· Assists patrons in using the online catalog and other electronic tools and resources.

· Assist and instruct patrons how to use library services, equipment, and facilities.

· Attend meetings and training opportunities as required.

· Create displays to enhance the library experience and to promote use of library resources.

· Assists with collection maintenance tasks.

· May be asked to assist or host public programs.

· Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education requirements are minimum standards.

· High school diploma/GED.

Experience which provides the knowledge skills and abilities required to perform the duties of Public Service Specialist.

Hours are typically scheduled between 1:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday; must be available to work a flexible schedule.

Pay: From $14.05 per hour
