This paraprofessional position involves the circulation of library materials to members, including charging and discharging materials, registering members, assisting the public in locating materials, and shelving materials. The position includes readers’ advisory service, cash handling and reconciliation, interpretation of policies and procedures, and equipment maintenance. Responsible for assigned collection monitoring and maintenance. In the absence of the section Supervisor, directs the work of staff and acts as the resource person to resolve member concerns. This position may supervise adult volunteers for the Branch.


QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to process one of the following:


  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours) AND one (1) year of experience working in a library,

OR


  • Graduation from high school/equivalent; minimum of one (1) year of college-level coursework (must specify 30-semester/45-quarter hours) AND two (2) years of related experience,

OR


  • Graduation from high school/equivalent; minimum of three (3) years of related experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Library work experience, especially in circulation,
  • Experience working with the public or in customer service,
  • Experience training personnel,
  • Experience using SIRSI or other Integrated Library System (ILS),
  • Experience using computers, and

  • Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
