Job Title: Circulation Aide
Location: Fowlerville District Library, 130 South Grand Avenue, Fowlerville, Michigan
Department: Administration
Reports to: Circulation Services Manager
Job Type: Part-time; 20 hours per week
Pay Range: $14 - $17 per hour

Monthly Work Schedule:
Week 1: Monday 9-2, Thursday 3-8, Friday 1-6, Saturday 9:30-4
Week 2: Monday 9-2, Wednesday 9-2, Thursday 3-8, Friday 1-6
Week 3: Monday 9-2, Tuesday 9-2, Thursday 3-8, Friday 1-6
Week 4: Tuesday 9-2, Wednesday 12-5, Thursday 3-8, Friday 1-6
Plus, occasional special events
Position Summary:
The Circulation Aide at the Fowlerville District Library provides direct patron customer service.
Our front desk staff are the first, and sometimes, only library staff our patrons interact with on any given visit to the library. It’s essential that our circulation staff are friendly, approachable, competent, and dedicated to patron service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide exceptional, professional customer service at all times.
· Answer patron queries in person and via telephone including placing and canceling holds, issue library cards, renew library items, verify book titles, find phone numbers and addresses on the Internet, and much more.
· Check library materials in and out using the library software interface.
· Assist patrons with self-service technology including printing, scanning, copying.
· Handle cash transactions for lost items, copies, etc.
· Provide computer and other technology assistance.
· Resolve patron complaints in a manner satisfactory to all whenever possible.
· May process deliveries of materials from other libraries.
· Shelve returned books and other library materials as needed.
· Shelf read and straighten material on shelves.
· Make simple repairs on damaged materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Project an enthusiastic and positive image of the library.
· Stimulate interest in the use of library materials and facilities.
· Possess computer experience and a willingness to learn new programs (MeL, Canva, Excel, Word, etc.)
· Provide strong attention to detail.
· Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a professional manner.
· Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, and fractions to practical situations.
· Ability to work cooperatively with library staff in a team environment.
· Ability to operate standard office equipment.
· Have knowledge of mobile devices and a familiarity with different types of Operating Systems (OS).
Physical/Environmental Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly asked to:
· Talk clearly and hear people of all ages, including small children.
· Stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 30 lbs.
· Grab, hold, and shelve materials and read the small print on spine labels.
· Spend a significant amount of time during each shift either standing or walking short distances.

Preferred Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent; some college or Associate’s Degree, preferred
· Library and clerical experience
· Prior experience working with the public
· Excellent computer skills
· Excellent communication skills
· Excellent customer service skills
· Ability to work independently
