Overview of Position:

This is routine clerical work in a library involving basic support services and services to patrons. Work involves responsibility for routine circulation, shelf maintenance, clerical functions using automated circulation system, and technical services on library materials. Duties include charging books in and out, shelving library materials, data inputting, and telephone answering.


Primary Duties:

  • Adhere/enforce all library policies and procedures.
  • Create new library accounts for students, faculty and staff.
  • Create school ID cards for students, faculty and staff.
  • Check in/out material from the circulating collection to students, faculty and staff.
  • Place reserves for students over the phone and in person.
  • Renew material for patrons over the phone and in person.
  • Answer directional questions and refers patrons to the reference librarian for answering reference questions.
  • Transfer telephone calls to staff’s voice mail or take a message if asked.
  • Collect fines for overdue material.
  • Shelf read the assigned areas from collections i.e., books, videos, reference, etc.
  • Monitor the security system and respond to the alarm.
  • Add/delete/modify new/old books and testing materials’ information in the library system.
  • Assists users in the location of books, audios, videos, tests and test protocols, journals and other library materials.
  • Compile and prepare faculty and alumni publications.
  • Helps with clerical duties in the library as necessary (photocopying, filing, faxing, etc.)
  • Assists students with photocopy machines.
  • Assist with closing procedures.
  • Reports directly to the library director.
  • Perform special projects assigned by the library director.

Qualifications:

  • The position requires the incumbent to use tact and independent judgment/initiative in resolving patron problems and in carrying out the responsibilities/duties of the position.
  • When all assigned tasks are completed, ask if anyone has something that needs to be done. Ability to maintain your focus on the task(s) assigned with minimal supervision and minimal error rate. Skills necessary to do repetitive work on a daily basis. Ability to multitask is necessary. Previous library experience not required but helpful.

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or higher. Bilingual- English and Spanish (orally and written). Computer literate, Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excellent customer service skills.
  • Schedule is Monday-Thursday 3pm-8pm; Saturday 9am-2pm; Friday and Sunday OFF. Willing to accept schedule change when necessary.


CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS: The Albizu University annual security report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus areas controlled by Albizu University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to, and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning drug and alcohol use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
