Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Library Director and Library I, performs phases of circulation duties as assigned; works in close contact with children and other members of the public; and does other tasks as required.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists the public in person and occasionally by phone. Assists the Librarian I with all summer activities and programs. Must be able to cut with scissors, use cutting equipment, color, paste, pick up material around the library, climb a ladder, use simple office tools, and work a flexible schedule; some exposure to dust, mechanical, and electrical hazards, using proper safety precautions. Operates photocopier, and various other office equipment; performs routine and minor maintenance chores; retrieves books and materials from shelves up to 8 feet high with the aid of a step stool; lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds; and pushes and pulls circulation carts.
Experience, Training, Knowledge, and Skills:
Knowledge of alphabet and number systems; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to operate computer-automated library systems and other office equipment such as telephones and photocopiers; and ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and pleasantly with patrons of varying ages and employees.
