JOB
Under the direction of the Circulation Supervisor, this para-professional position involves the performance of a variety of tasks that are either clerical or technical in nature, or involving direct, service-oriented dealings with library patrons. The hours for this position is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and alternating Fridays and Saturdays to equal 20 hours each week.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates on-line system to circulate books and materials, register new library patrons, issue cards, file applications, monitor overdue materials, reserve requested materials, collect fines and fees.Makes first contact with library patrons, provides general information on services, directs patrons to appropriate area.Pulls materials needing corrections or mending and sends to Technical Services.Assists the pages in the shelving of materials.Checks in magazines and newspapers and puts on shelves.Reads shelves and searches for books returned but not recorded.Repairs minor damages to books and other library material.May maintain library equipment, performing minor repairs.May assist with children's programs such as story hours, arts and crafts, and bulletin boards, displays, and signs.Makes copies of forms, handouts, and other materials for circulation.Answers the phone and directs the calls to appropriate person.May participate in outreach programs as assigned.Assists the public in locating books and basic information.Monitors inventory of supplies necessary for daily operation.Collects and records money for fines, copier, printers, and fees.Performs Library opening and closing routines.Other duties as assigned.May maintain the mini-book program by securing appropriate locations throughout the community then processing and delivering materials.May be in charge of sending overdue notices and follow-up procedures.
