Library Director

The Library Director, under direct supervision of the Board of Trustees, is responsible for the administration of all library functions within the goals, guidelines, and policies established by the Board. The Director is responsible for collection development, facility management, financial oversight, staff development and supervision, grant acquisitions and management, and programming. The Director is expected to provide a leadership role within the library, the community, and the library profession. The Director serves as the official representative of the library to the library system, the government agencies and the general public.

PAY: Salary is commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum: 2 years of college; 9 credits (or willingness to obtain) in Library Science

· Knowledge of computers

· Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and social skills

· Effective money management skills and ability to use money management software

· Ability to make administrative decisions, develop policies and supervise staff

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following duties are normal for this position:

Financial

· Prepare and make bank deposits

· Pay library bills in a timely manner

· Record debits and credits in Quickbooks

· Supervise and replenish Petty Cash

· Inform Board Treasurer of any problem areas or when money needs transferred between accounts

· Assist with yearly budget

· Submit payroll information to Surepayroll

· Complete payroll process as scheduled

Reports

· Prepare annual State Report, SALSA and Plans for Use of State Aid

· Conduct Performance Reviews of staff

· Prepare annual report of library statistics for Apollo and North Apollo Boroughs

Day-to-Day Operations

· Work at Circulation Desk when needed

o Collect money for copies, printing, FAXs, book sales, memberships and fines

o Answer telephone

o Reshelf books

· Coordinate staff activities and schedules

· Assist patrons

· Coordinate volunteers

· Check email

Board of Trustees

· Attend monthly Board Meetings

· Compile Director’s Report and New Book List for Board Meeting

· Suggest policy additions/revisions

· Identify and write grants

· Collaborate on library newsletter

Collection Development

· Purchase library collection materials based on the Collection Expenditure requirements set by the state

· Review and approve donated materials for inclusion in the collection

· Identify materials to be removed from the collection

· Choose books for memorial or honor recognition

· Review magazine collection to determine usage

Programming

· Define ways to promote reading in the community

· Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct a balanced program of library services to meet the immediate and long-range goals of the library and the community

· Effectively communicate the programs and services of the Library to the public using a variety of methods – newsletter, flyers, social media.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Position requires evening or weekend hours

· May occasionally travel within the region for outreach or training

· Will be called upon to process U.S. Passport Applications (upon completion of training)

· Employee must have reliable transport to work and work-related meetings, workshops,

conferences, etc.

· Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance

· Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check

· Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
