Position Summary

Okemos Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and student-centered Library Media Clerk to serve Hiawatha Elementary School. The successful candidate will foster a welcoming and engaging library environment that promotes literacy, inquiry, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading while supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of elementary students.

The Library Media Clerk will collaborate with classroom teachers and building staff to support student learning, provide access to high-quality instructional resources, and develop students' information literacy and digital citizenship skills. The position may also include providing targeted literacy support and intervention services to small groups of students.

This position is scheduled for a 75% workday.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with technology, including educational software, online resources, and standard office applications
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and administrators

Preferred

  • Associate's degree in education, library sciences, literature, child development, communications, or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in library sciences, literature, education, English, or a related field highly desirable
  • Experience working in a school library, media center, educational setting, or public library
  • Experience supporting student literacy development, reading programs, or intervention groups
  • Knowledge of children's literature and age-appropriate literacy practices
  • Experience using library management systems and digital learning resources
  • Experience collaborating with classroom teachers to support student learning and achievement

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a welcoming, organized, and student-focused library media center
  • Foster a culture of reading and literacy among students
  • Teach and support information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship
  • Curate and maintain library collections that support curriculum and student interests
  • Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing print and digital resources
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support instructional goals and student learning
  • Plan and deliver engaging library lessons and learning experiences
  • Support the integration of technology and digital resources within the school environment
  • Analyze student learning needs and provide literacy support to small groups of students as assigned
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with staff regarding intervention supports
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required
  • Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and school improvement efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

Compensation and Benefits

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the negotiated agreement and compensation plan for applicable support staff positions.
