Description
To provide each student with an enriched media environment containing a wide variety and range of resources that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of our information-based world.

Qualifications

Endorsement in accordance with the Virginia Department of Education Licensure Regulations.

Experience as a classroom teacher preferred.

Demonstrated aptitude for using all technologies.

Performance Responsibilities
Knows and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
Evaluates, selects, and requisitions appropriate media resources.
Assists teachers in the selection of instructional media.
Remains current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
Informs teachers and other staff members of new materials and equipment.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging and retrieval of all materials, and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers in and outside the division.
Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Presents and discusses materials on specific topics.
Serves as a member of curriculum planning teams.
Counsels with and guide students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
Arranges displays and exhibits that inspire creative thinking and the use of media. Create an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaborate with teaching staff.
Consults with teachers in the planning of instruction and the use of media materials and equipment in classroom activities. Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning, providing 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community.
Assists teachers, students, and administrators in their own creation of technology related media.
Prepares and administers the library media center budget.
Supervises the library clerks and volunteers in the performance of their duties.
Develops and administers an in-service educational program for professional personnel on the use of all media resources and technology.
Cooperates with the Information Systems Department in the selection, maintenance, and repair of software hardware.
Keeps informed of new developments and trends in the field of technology in order that innovations and new materials may be considered for implementation.
Keeps informed about all types of educational materials in non-print as well as print media, and remain up-to-date on trends and practices regarding their use.
Performs such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the principals.
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and to enter data into a computer.
See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Some teaching specialties (i.e., music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision and physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed above.

Terms of Employment
Ten-month and one-half, eleven-month, or twelve-month contract. Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Teacher Salary Scale.
