Library Media Specialist

Job Purpose:
The Library Media Specialist at Summit Christian Academy is responsible for managing the library resources and supporting the educational curriculum by providing access to a wide range of information resources. The role involves fostering a love for reading and learning among students, integrating technology to enhance learning experiences, and collaborating with teachers to support instructional goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a diverse and engaging library collection that supports the curriculum and caters to the interests of students.
  • Promote literacy and a love for reading through various programs and activities, including book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction and develop lesson plans that incorporate information literacy skills.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to students on how to effectively locate, evaluate, and use information resources.
  • Manage the library's digital resources, including e-books and online databases, and provide training to students and staff on their use.
  • Organize and maintain the library's physical space to create a welcoming and conducive environment for learning and exploration.
  • Stay current with trends in library media services and educational technology to continuously improve the library's offerings.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the school's overall mission and goals.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or equivalent

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience working as a Library Media Specialist, preferably in an educational setting
  • Experience in a Christian school environment is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in managing library resources and media technology
  • Proven track record of collaborating with educators to support curriculum development

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents
  • Proficiency in library management systems and educational technology tools
  • Ability to develop and implement engaging library programs that promote literacy and learning
  • Strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and integrate them into library services
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
