ROLE AND PURPOSE:
Administer and manage the campus library program to support student achievement, promote literacy, and ensure
equitable access to information and resources. The Librarian collaborates with teachers and campus leadership to
integrate library services into the instructional program, supports the development of research and digital literacy
skills, and fosters a culture of reading across the campus. This role is responsible for maintaining an organized,
accessible library environment and ensuring effective use of library resources to enhance teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Valid Texas school librarian certification preferred
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of library science principles, information literacy, and research practices
- Ability to support and enhance classroom instruction through library resources and collaboration
- Knowledge of children's and young adult literature
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage library systems, catalogs, and digital resources
- Knowledge of instructional technology and digital literacy tools
- Ability to promote reading and literacy development across diverse student populations
- Understanding of copyright, fair use, and information ethics
- Ability to train and support staff and students in the use of library resources
- Commitment to equitable access to information and resources
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:I. Library Program Management- Manage the daily operations of the campus library, including circulation, cataloging, and inventory
of materials
- Maintain an organized, accessible, and welcoming library environment
- Select, acquire, and maintain library resources that support curriculum and student interests
- Ensure library resources are current, relevant, and aligned with instructional priorities
II. Instructional Support and Collaboration - Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into instruction and support curriculum
goals
- Provide instruction to students on research skills, information literacy, and digital citizenship
- Support inquiry-based learning and independent research projects
- Assist teachers in identifying resources to support differentiated instruction
III. Literacy Promotion- Promote a culture of reading through programs, events, and student engagement activities
- Recommend literature to students based on interests and reading levels
- Support campus literacy initiatives and encourage independent reading
- Organize and implement reading programs, book fairs, and literacy events
IV. Technology and Digital Resources- Support the use of digital tools and online resources for research and learning
- Manage access to digital library resources, databases, and instructional technology tools
- Train students and staff in the effective and responsible use of technology and information
resources
V. Systems and Resource Management- Maintain accurate records of library materials and usage data
- Develop systems to track circulation, resource use, and program effectiveness
- Monitor and manage the library budget and resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with district policies related to materials selection and use
VI. Family and Community Engagement- Communicate library programs and resources to students, staff, and families
- Encourage family involvement in reading and literacy activities
- Partner with community organizations to enhance library services and resources
VII. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending,
pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional
reaching
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged
hours
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
- Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions
