The Library Media Specialist works collaboratively with the district librarian to direct all responsibilities and activities related to the campus library media program. The position assists with the day-to-day maintenance of the campus library and the ongoing support of students' and faculty's awareness and use of library resources and technology. These duties include, but are not limited to circulation of materials, troubleshooting technology, reference assistance, collection maintenance, literacy programing, outreach activities, media and communications support.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or hold a GED certificate
Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of
higher learning*
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively, including excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written skills
Effective time management skills
Knowledge of integrated library systems, Follett Destiny Library Manager preferred
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and cataloging systems in order to locate, shelve, and maintain order of library materials
Experience working with Google Workspace, library catalogs/databases, and the internet
Experience creating promotional materials such as flyers, posters, social media post and displays
Ability to monitor and supervise the library to ensure a safe and comfortable environment
Experience:
Experience working in a library or related setting
Some year experience working with children
Monitor the work and issue work assignments to parent volunteers and student aides.
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging equipment; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular overhead reaching; climbing ladders
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds)
Environment: Work inside; work alone; exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruption; maintain emotional control under stress
