Position Summary
The Library Media Specialist is an educational leader who develops, manages, and promotes a dynamic, student-centered library media program that fosters a love of reading, supports curriculum, and cultivates digital literacy. This role aligns with Utah State Board of Education Library Media Standards and advances school-wide academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities

Library Program Leadership

Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive library media program aligned with Utah Core Standards and district goals.

Advocate for intellectual freedom and equitable access to information and technology for all students.

Maintain a current and diverse collection that supports student interests, the curriculum, and Utah's population.

Instructional Collaboration
-
Partner with educators to integrate information literacy, digital citizenship, research skills, and technology into classroom instruction.

Co-plan and co-teach lessons that promote inquiry, critical thinking, and ethical use of information.

Support educators' professional development in educational technology, IVC and library resources.

Student Support
-
Empower students as creators, readers, and responsible digital citizens.

Provide instruction in research, media literacy, and information evaluation, using Utah's K-12 Information Literacy Standards.

Offer inclusive programming to meet the needs of diverse learners, including ELL, gifted, IVC and special education students.

Resource Management

Manage library resources, including print, digital, and multimedia collections.

Oversee circulation, budgeting, inventory, and collection development in compliance with state and district policies.

Ensure safe, welcoming, and accessible physical and virtual library environments.

Technology Integration

Promote and support the effective use of educational technology aligned with Utah's Digital Teaching and Learning Plan.

Guide students and staff in responsible technology use, including privacy, digital footprint, and cyber safety.

Community Engagement

Foster partnerships with families, public libraries, and community organizations.

Host literacy events, book fairs, and reading challenges to engage the school community.
Qualifications

Knowledge of Utah Core Standards, Information Literacy Standards, and Digital Citizenship frameworks

Experience with library management systems and educational technology platforms
