Description

Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to provide a wide range of collection maintenance, program support and administrative tasks across both adult and children’s/teens’ service areas. This position requires capabilities in numbering systems, working with the public, familiarity with various technologies including basic audio/visual equipment, photocopiers, printers and Internet (browsing, email, printing). Working collaboratively with co-workers and community partners, program facilitators and other City staff is crucial as is working as a positive, contributing member of the library team.

This is a part-time position: 16 hours per week

Examples of Duties

Because it is difficult if not impossible to present a finite list of every possible function to be performed by employee, the City of Wilton Manors reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to modify and update this job description and to ask employee to perform tasks beyond the duties presented herein. In the event a change is necessary to update the essential functions of the job, the City will provide as much notice as practicable to the employee.

  • Re-shelves items of all physical formats (books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, etc.)
  • Performs general collection maintenance including shelf reading, organizing and light dusting
  • Lifts and moves boxes, pushes library book carts and assists with the receipt and unpacking of new materials
  • Assists Librarians, other staff and outside facilitators in setup, presentation and tear down for programs held both at the library and at other locations throughout the community
  • Assists patrons with basic in-house computing (Internet, printing)
  • Provides crowd control during programs, including liaising with parents during story times and other events to ensure all children enjoy each session
  • Represents the library within the Leisure Services Department at various community events
  • At the discretion and direction of the library director, aids the Friends of the Wilton Manors Library in the setup and presentation of events including lecture series and used book fairs
  • Keeps detailed records of attendance including filling in time sheets accurately and on time
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience which would provide required knowledge, skills and abilities are qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Experience working or volunteering to assist children. Physical ability to lift boxes of books (up to 40 lbs.). Strong reading and customer service skills. Adeptness with technologies and numbering systems (specifically the Dewey Decimal System). Minimum of 16 years of age.


Preferred Qualifications

Prior work in a library setting, administrative function, camp counsellor, or volunteer with children and adults. Experience operating and troubleshooting basic audio/visual and other equipment, Internet systems, and/or automated inventory systems. An expressed interest in public service. Energetic, experience working with the public and an interest in promoting learning and literacy.

Salary
Merit increases of 1% to 3% annually based on performance evaluation (increase is subject to percentages set by Commission during the annual budget ).
