They assist customers with various circulation tasks as well as troubleshoot patron issues, and answer basic research questions. They ensure a safe and welcoming environment and provide quality programming. Library Service Associates work under the general supervision of Librarians and Managers.Typical Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays: 8:45 am - 5:15 pmWednesdays: 11:45 am - 8:15 pmWith rotating Saturdays (one per month): 9:45 am - 4:15 pm
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Assist customers with using the Library Greet customers in a friendly and professional mannerMeet customers’ needs for information by answering basic research questions and locating appropriate library resources, providing referrals when necessaryRecommend materials based on customer preferences and knowledge of the collectionAssist customers in finding specific items on shelvesPerform customer service for library accounts, as well as checking materials in and out Provide help with library technology such as public computers, the Library catalog, and digital resources 2. Conducts the day-to-day operations of a department or branchMonitor and appropriately address behavior issues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all customersMaintain a pleasant, inviting environment in the Library by creating displays and signage, etc.Maintain orderly and attractive collections and withdraw items as appropriate Assist with training and monitoring the work of other Library employees and volunteersSubmit statistics and other reports of library services3. Support the mission and strategic goals of the Library Develop, promote, and implement events and programs under the guidance of manager and provide programming support for other Library employeesImplement system-wide programs such as annual summer reading programsPromote library programs, resources, and services to customersAssist with large-scale projects and eventsServe on system-wide committees as assigned or requiredAttend and participate in staff and departmental meetings, as well as training sessionsRecruit and coordinate the work of library volunteersPerform other related duties as needed or assigned
