JOB DESCRIPTION:


Develop, coordinate and manage the District’s Library Media Program, EC-12. Provide instructional leadership and vision for continuous improvement of the District Library Media Program.



DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Oversee the evaluation, selection, acquisition, and processing of print and non-print curriculum-related resources for District libraries according to District policies and operating procedures.

  • Provide assistance to campus library media specialists on the integration of information skills, literature, and technology into the curriculum.

  • Support campus library media specialists in the daily operation of the Library Media Program.

  • Maintain communication with public and university libraries and seek ways to share resources and services.

  • Communicate with administrators, campus library media specialists, and campus staff to support teaching and learning.

  • Identify, develop, and coordinate a systematic process for District services for the Library Media Program.

  • Provide professional learning on ethical use of materials and equipment.

  • Administer, evaluate, and provide professional learning for District purchased online databases.

  • Conduct professional learning and regular meetings for campus library media specialists.

  • Plan and present at District Wide Professional Learning for library media specialists.

  • Consult and collaborate regularly with campus library media specialists and provide ongoing assistance and support.

  • Work effectively with District and campus administrators.

  • Promote Conroe ISD libraries in the community and through official social media.

  • Oversee collection development.

  • Merge Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) records and standardize the District library catalog.

  • Maintain Library Services web site as a tool for instruction and professional learning.

  • Coordinate library special projects as needed.

  • Collect data and prepare responses to reconsideration of materials in conjunction with the District Legal Department.

  • Develop Opening Day Collections for new campus libraries.

  • Review and cultivate eBook and audio book lists for District library.

  • Monitor and oversee writing author contracts, in accordance with District policies, to maintain consistency throughout all District libraries.

  • Lead new library media specialist mentoring program.

  • Serve as resource for principals in hiring and evaluating campus library media specialists.

  • Serve as a resource for District administrators and Planning & Construction regarding design of new school libraries.

  • Attend state conventions as appropriate to collaborate with Texas library leaders and to engage in continued professional growth.

  • Remain current regarding established laws, policies, operating procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Participate in professional organizations and activities which relate to library media and technology.

  • Remain current on library professional association documents related to intellectual freedom and school librarianship.

  • Regular attendance.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.


EXPERIENCE:


  • Completed three years as a successful public school librarian

  • Completed three years as a successful classroom teacher

  • Experience in developing and leading professional development presentations


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:


  • Master’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Valid School Librarian certificate, or other appropriate Texas certificate

  • Curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Organization and follow through
  • Communication, oral and written
  • Budget planning
  • Interfacing library program with other programs
  • Ability to work under pressure
