INTRODUCTION:
The Estacada Public Library is seeking a friendly, customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Specialist I. This is a part-time position with a consistent schedule of 16.5 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours to cover staff vacations and absences.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with the public and takes pride in providing excellent service to a diverse community of library users. Prior library experience or work in a related field is a plus but not required. This position is ideal for someone who values community service, enjoys a collaborative work environment, and takes pride in keeping the library welcoming and organized.
KEY DETAILS:
- Pay: $17.91/hour
- Location: This position is onsite at our Library location, 825 NW Wade Street, Estacada OR 97023.
- Schedule: This is part-time, in-office position. Must be available to work the following schedule:
Friday 12:00-5:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:15-5:00 p.m.
Sunday 11:15-5:00 p.m.
Duties and responsibilities of the Library Specialist I include:
- Assist with day-to-day operations of the library
- Handles check-in, sorting, shelving and shelf reading functions as needed to ensure that all library materials are properly organized, routed and maintained so staff and users can easily find needed materials.
- Create library cards and assist patrons with their accounts
- Checks materials in and out and takes requests for holds
- Checks in and accurately routes courier materials as needed, organizes and carefully packs courier crates.
- Perform standard circulation duties
- Shelve materials and conduct shelf reading
- Assist patrons with public computers, copying, and printing
- Provide helpful, friendly customer service
- Follows all safety rules, procedures, and City policies. Performs other miscellaneous duties as needed for the daily operation of the library.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
The City will consider any equivalent combination of relevant training, skills, education, and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
Experience:
- Experience working in libraries is desirable.
- Experience and/or training in using a variety of computer equipment and programs is desirable.
- Any combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted for the above.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of math, spelling, alpha/numeric sorting methods, and general clerical related skills, operation of standard office equipment.
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
Abilities:
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to learn the Dewey Decimal Classification system and other library filing systems.
- Ability to follow established procedures and policies
- Ability to use the Internet and perform basic computing tasks
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Windows and/or Apple MacOS
- Must be self-motivated and able to focus on details to quickly, accurately, and efficiently complete work, thus ensuring the staff and public an orderly, usable library. Ability to show care and responsibility for the library collection and mission.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification system and other library filing systems
- Experience working in libraries
- Experience and/or training in using a variety of computer equipment and programs is desirable.
